1977 Never Mind the Bullocks - 6/8
This band was so influential in kick starting the English Punk rock craze, people don't realize how average their full album was. The band is all about attitude and rebellion, speaking of "communism" and "queen hating", as well as cussing a lot. I mean, oh boy at the time they were the first big English punk band, but it is very dated now. For one thing, there is not one great song on here until almost half way through, and you have to wade through the crap of "Bodies" and "Lair", which are just awful songs. Yeah, "God Save the Queen", "Anarchy in the U.K.", "Submission", and "Pretty Vacant" are great songs, and they make the album worth getting. But come on, you have "Seventeen" and "New York" (oh I get it, like the New York Dolls? Yeah you wish) here too, two of the worst songs I have ever heard! Can anyone defend these songs at all, and claim they like them? I just don't see it. As far as flow goes, forget it on this album. "I'm so lazy" seems to be the theme for the album, and the word fast doesn't even apply to these songs, and the fact that they can barley play instruments doesn't matter anyway, because the songs for the most part are mediocre. That all said now, even though "Holiday in the Sun", "Problems", and "E.M.I" (copy the Modern Lovers some more please, "radio on!") are not great songs, they are still good and listenable, and "No Feelings" is a nice pop ditty. The attitude and created persona of the Sex Pistols make for an interesting news article, but in truth are they any better than any kind Backstreet Boys or N'Sync, the exact same kind of fashionable created band? Ok, yeah they are better than them, but the idea is EXACTLY the same, a man named Malcom McLaren just dressed them up in fashion and promoted them to hell. And the album, one of those "classics", does not stand up compared to countless articles of their time, and should not stand the test of time. Never Mind the Bullocks is barely even good, and one of the more overrated albums of all rock music. - Trevor e.y.

An Interruption if You Will: John Lydon luckily had much more success artistically with Public Image Ltd., who I'll review someday. P.I.L. are a great, life changing band, and impacted the music of the 2000's more than almost any other band from the late 70's early 80's. So bully for him, but his first band still sucked.
