Best Horror Films

Horror films to me mean one thing: freaked out. The main impression is to scare or frighten. That to
me is horror. Some films are border-line that I just didn't have room for (Jaws, King Kong, The Invisible
Man) and some I like pretty well but I don't think are GREAT (Scream, Halloween, more of the recent blah
blah). The 1960's were the scariest decade I guess, 6 films from then are on my list. Horror also is a
genre of movies that has more crap on average than any other genre, or at least it seems that way.
Maybe that's not even true, it might just be the most visible. Whatever the reason, it seems like there are
way to many laughable gore movies just thrown out there that are not scary at all. Never the less, these
15 never fail to freak me out each time, and that's what it's all about. - Trevor e.y.

15.The Sixth Sense        -        1999

I've still only see this once and some say when you see it again it is not as effective. Then again, some
say it is MORE effective so who do we believe? All I know is I was freaked out, and I'm sure I would be
again.

14.Shadow of a Doubt        -        1943

Hey, I limited my self to three Hitchcock films and that was hard enough! This moive has one of the most
chilling villains ever, played by Joseph Cotten. If you haven't seen it, your in for some odd-mother
hating-insane family connection- murderous fun.

13.Night of the Living Dead        -        1968
The first zombie move would have to be on here. Not because it's the first zombie movie, but because it is
scary as hell. Being depressing and gory usually is not my thing, but this one gets it about right. Lo fidelity
to the max but no one notices that. They just don't want to get EATEN BY FUCKING ZOMBIES!!!!!!

12.Blood Simple        -        1984

Some might say this is more dark comedy, but there are few movies freakier then this Cohen brothers tale
of people that double cross everyone. The mix of genres might make it lower on the "horror" list, but this
is and has always been one of my favorite movies. Want to actually be disturbed and scared? See this
movie.

11.Silence of the Lambs        -        1991
A renowned classic upon release, and that is a rare thing indeed. But damn, this movie is just freaky like
that! What's worse than zombies eating people? Cannibals eating people.

10.Dracula         -        1931
Kind of takes a while to get going, but this movie actually is scary. The 1930's only had two kinds of great
movies anyway up until 1939: horror films and comedies. This got the horror genre off to a rousing start,
so kudos must be given. It still manages to chill surprisingly, way more then any of the Frankenstein
movies.

9.Don't Look Now        -        1973

Now this is a scary movie. It starts off as a take on a failing marriage and a lost daughter, but when the
daughter comes back to life, DO NOT FOLLOW IT AROUND!!!!!! Dear lord, what a great ending this one
has. A horror film with a brain.

8.Peeping Tom        -        1960

Rear Window ain't shit. Peeping Tom is a very disturbing movie. It might not "scare you" but it will disturb
you. This guy goes around filming his victims deaths as he lures women into his clutches and stabs them
with a long spike on his camera. More interesting then it sounds because you actually grow to like the
killer!

7.The Shining        -        1980

Going insane was never as fun as this famous Kubrick. The thing is, I don't blame Jack for wanting to kill
Shelly Duvall; she's pretty annoying in this.

6.The Birds        -        1963

See, this movie freaks me the hell out. It starts verrrrry sloooowww but once it gets going your like "No
lookout! Don't go in there! That's what the birds want! AHHHH!" Only the Master of Suspense can make
you fear some robins and pigeons. Now blue jays, those birds are evil. But we all knew that.

5.Rosemary's Baby        -        1968

Yeah here we go, Rosmary's Baby. This movie is the most suspenseful of any on this list. It keeps you
guessing right up till the end. The devil has sex with this girl, or does he?!?

4.The Haunting        -        1963

See, this movies reputation was hurt because of the horrible remake. Don't go see that crap, see the
original. Freaky and real; people are more villainous then the ghosts.

3.Frailty        -        2002
Frailty is right up there with all the old time classics to me. It is a mystery, suspense, and truly freaky film
all in one. Bill Paxton stars and directs as he takes his kids to kill some people with Otis, the axe. God's
hand will destroy the demons right? Or is it the other way around?

2.Psycho        -        1960

If the 1930's movie's perfected the horror genre, this rejuvenated it. Psycho came along after a great
streak of Hitchcock movies and came as a complete left turn after the carefree
North by Northwest. Killing
off the main character and all that is great, but really it is just a disturbing flick. The whole thing is so
disturbing! Some people don't like the explanation in the end; there has to be an aftermath to a movie so
strange.

1.Night of the Hunter        -        1955
Little seen except by those stupid film critics (heh), this to me is the freakiest movie ever made. The evil
preacher kills friends, spouse, and any children in his way in his quest for 10 grand. L-O-V-E & H-A-T-E
tattoos on each hand might be the most referenced detail in all horror movies and most people don't know
where it came from. I sure didn't until I saw this movie, and my life was never the same. The thing is, hope
lies at the end of the film too and better than almost any other movie,
Night of the Hunter points out what
makes people fear other people: the answer lies within. I can't tell you with words now can I?
"Chiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiillllllldreeen....."

Anyways, these are my choices. What are yours?
